Q:
Is this place halal? I don't see any certifications for it being halal?
A:
They may be halal. But there is no indication on a sign at either the kabob takeout house or the restaurant that they are. And none of their menus says halal.
Ben R.1 year agoQ:
Is indoor dining available?
A:
If Alameda County allows it I am sure they will do limited indoor dining.

Best Afghan food in the Bay Area! however the last few times the place has been smokey inside and the lights have been an issue.

Came by for lunch the other day and it was a tasty experience. De Afghanan Cuisine is a full service restaurant. Parking is available next to the restaurant or on surface streets in front or behind the restaurant. The area next to the restaurant is definitely showing its age with more cars with expired registration stickers along with abandoned buildings.
Dining is available indoors or on the patio featuring an ATM on the "porch". Entrances to the restaurant can be from the front door on via the back door next to the restaurant.
Started off with the leek bolani and it was fantastic and huge. The pancake was filled with flavorful and juicy leeks and came with a cup of yogurt for dipping.
The mantu was also tasty with ground meet and onions wrapped and topped off with some yogurt sauce.
Opted for the chapli plate with brown rice as a main and it was also gigantic. The brown rice was a seasoned rice which was very flavorful.

The restaurant opens at 11:30 am confirmed via phone and in person, contrary to what Google and their "website" states.
Street parking is available along with a few spaces behind the restaurant. There are also a couple tables outdoors on the heated patio.
Started off with the full leek bolani and it was excellent. Huge portions stuffed with chopped leaks and grilled to perfection. This was served with a side of yogurt.
Moved on to the bolani which were heavenly. They were like meat filled dumplings in a super thin wrapper, topped with yogurt.
Had the Chapli with brown rice as the entree and it was huge. Two huge spicy patties along with a generous serving of brown rice.
Ended the meal off with the sweetened rice and milk pudding which was perfect for sharing.
Interestingly, we were not provided with bread while the tables next to us were...

Street parking was available along with a few spots next to the restaurants and on streets behind the restaurant.
Both indoor and outdoor dining were available. Indoor dining tables were spaced 6+ feet apart with tables no more than 6 people. Staff were properly wearing masks covering their noses and some wore gloves.
Started off with the leek bolani and it was excellent fresh! The bolani was filled with plenty of leeks and was super flavorful!
The mantu was decent, although it tasted better on previous visits!
Had the triple kabob with beef, chapli, and lamb with brown rice and it was delicious. Requested the meats to be medium rare and they came out towards medium. On previous visits there were 3 pieces of lamb with the $2 surcharge. On my most recent visit, there were only 2 pieces of lamb along with an additional piece of beef... The beef was flavorful and the lamb is even better! The chapli is always a phenomenal treat with their spices!
The dine-in experience was slightly different with a mix of bio-degradable boxes along with plastic reusable dishes. The utensils were disposable while the menu was laminated.Aug 8, 2018Previous reviewCame by for dinner the other night and it was excellent!
Started off with the half order mantu and it was fresh and tasty hot out of the oven! The leeks were fresh and the bread was light and fluffy! The half order was more than enough!
The Bolani was also excellent with super thin wrapper, fresh and flavorful ground beef topped with some delicious yogurt!
Main course was the lamb, beef, and beef Patty combo that was world class! The lamb was world class flavorful, juicy, and super tender! The spicy beef Patty was also excellent too! Their "brown" rice was super fragrant!

Started off with the Mantu and it was excellent! Fresh and soft pasta shells filled with flavorful ground beef! Think of a hybrid between a thin ravioli (wonton skin) with a meatball inside! Must try!
Moved on to the Triple kabob and it was also excellent! The tri-tip was extremely flavorful, tender, and juicy! The chicken breast was also excellent being very fresh and juicy too! Lastly the chaplee was excellent! Slightly spicy and also juicy and fresh!
The meats are complemented with a side salad and afghan bread which were mediocre.
Service was friendly and the interior is rather unique.

Despite being located in the quaint City of Fremont, the interior is quite modern and somewhat fancy! ...it's also very clean...especially the restroom!
Afghan Bread
- Wasn't fresh and was super chewy...no go.
Bolani
- Vegan flat-bread stuffed w/ potatoes...hard to explain but very tasty, especially with the yogurt as a dip!
Manto
- Afghan beef dumplings which were heavenly! The dumpling skin was very thin, similar to Chinese wonton wrappings and the beef was fresh!
Chapli w/ Rice
- Chapli is a spicy pork patty that looked like a McDonald's breakfast patty! The taste was slightly spicy and was definitely on point! The long grain rice was very tasty too!
Service throughout the meal was excellent!

It's been 10 years since I've last visited, and the quality, taste and ambiance has not changed. Stepping inside the restaurant you immediately feel warmth while transformed out of the country.
My fiancé and I shared the Triple Kabob Murgh, Teka & Chaplee Kabob (substituting chicken for lamb) with white rice and it was just the right amount for 2 starving adults after a long day. They make everything fresh in front of you so the wait could be long however they give you fluffy bread with a dip that I loved & couldn't stop stuffing myself with. The meats were so tasty & juicy with the perfect amount of heat & chargrilled flavored. Our favorite was the beef & second favorite was the sirloin patty.
We saw the table next to us devouring a leeks bolani, and we were 5 seconds away from ordering it but our stomach did the talking and we stopped ourselves from over ordering.
I'm glad they're still around because I can't wait to come back more often!
Parking could be a bit rough as it's only street parking or there's about 5 spots behind the restaurant.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - 4193688709Mar 8, 2024
This place is a local Fremont gem.
I've done both dine-in at this location and takeout at the small storefront right next door, and both spots have produced delicious Afghan food. The dine-in location has plenty of seating space, and the service was great too.
FOOD RECS //
+ Triple Kabob Murgh, Teka and Chaplee Kabob plate
+ Butternut squash bolani: this is a big serving! We shared between four of us
+ Quabili Pallow: one of my favorite dishes to get. The lamb is fall-off-the-bone tender, and the mix of carrots, raisins, and rice is a delicious savory-sweet flavor combo.
+ Bodinjon Borani (roasted eggplant)
+ Firni (milk pudding with pistachio): great end to the mealHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Feb 28, 20241 check-in
Visited De Afghanan on a Thursday night and experienced a taste of Afghan cuisine with some ups and downs. While I enjoyed the cute animal videos playing on the TV, some areas could be improved.
The Good:
* Bodinjon Borani: The roasted eggplant appetizer with tomato sauce, garlic sour cream, and dried mint was a delightful starter.
* The Combination: Murgh & Teka (Chicken & Beef) was beef was marinated well and tasted great!
* Hot black chai: a warm comforting and delicious beverage.
The Not-So-Good:
*Overcooked Chicken: Some of the chicken pieces were dry, and one was completely burnt (see photo).
*Missing Menu Item: Sadly, the Sheer Chai was unavailable despite being listed on the menu.
*Slow Service: We waited 20 minutes for the bill after asking for it, and after following up we waited another 5 minutes.
Price: $36.36 before tipHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 1, 2024
One of the oldest and longest running Afghan restaurants in the East Bay. Also the most authentic. The restaurant feels like a small hole-in-the-wall place.
I really liked the Chaplee Kabob and the Combo Murgh & Teka. Both were delicious.
However, service here is AWFUL. Upon sitting down, it took the staff 40 minutes to even acknowledge us and take our order. We had to call the waiter 3 times. Food came at around 20 minutes prior to ordering, which I feel is standard for kabob dishes. Then, it took another 30 minutes for the waiter to clear our tables and give us the check. This also took another 3 tries to call the waiter.
If it weren't for the great food, I would have given this place a 1 star for the horrible service experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jenn H.Newark, CA574151203Mar 12, 2024
We dined at De Afghanan Cuisine on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30-3 pm. All the seats were filled, but luckily some patrons were leaving. So we waited a minimum of 10 minutes to be seated indoors.
My party and I ordered the following:
1. Bolani - Yum! It came out pipping hot and fresh served with a spicy-ish yogurt and cilantro chutney. We had to contain ourselves from shoveling it down our mouths because it was scalding hot. Flatbread stuffed with mashed potato and leek? say less. We had leftovers and it tasted even better reheated in an airfry.
2. Combination Kabob of Chicken & Teka - This consisted of charbroiled chicken and beef served with basmati rice (white or brown basmati rice were available options), cucumber salad, and Afghan bread. Both meats were so tender, juicy, and flavorful. It's definitely one of those meals I wish never ended. My only complaint would be the Afghan bread. It would have been better if it was served warm. Reg temp bread is aight, but I guess it's a preferential thing. I took all the leftover bread and baked it later that night. So much tastier!
3. Chopan Kabob aka Charbroiled lamb (with bone) - My husband ordered this ginormous meal. I'm not a lamb person, but I tried a piece and it was better than I anticipated. Lamb is typically too gamy for my taste, but the chopan kabob didn't taste gamy to me! The portion size seemed huge. The husband finished the entire plate and then knocked out for a few hours after his meal. lol
Regarding the service - it was okay. It took a while for all of our main plates to come out, so having an appetizer was a good stomach tickler. Also, my husband had to get up and ask for plates and utensils, while we just stared at our bolani. We couldn't just pick it up and eat it because again, it was so freaking hot!
Overall, the food was amazing and I especially loved the cilantro chutney that paired so well with everything. highly recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Dec 30, 2023
Ordered to go, but the place looks a very nice place to dine in. Had a nice vibe and set up is nice. Only issue I had is I was charged twice and they asked me who charged me the first time the person denied it. Took a while to sort it out and eventually they returned almost the full amount. Funny the first charge they charged me for credit card fee. The second time they didn't but then they only returned the amount excluding the fee. It's ok though. I ordered last minute and was kinda in a hurry and food came out pretty quickly. Their Kebabs there are super good so I didn't kid too much.
