Brady Oberg

Brady Duane Oberg, age 27, of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly Ulen, MN, died Thursday, August 6, 2015, in his home.

Brady was born October 12, 1987, in Fargo, ND, the son of Charlene (Most) and Russell Oberg. He grew up in Ulen, MN. He was baptized and confirmed his faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen, and graduated from the Ulen-Hitterdal High School with the class of 2006. Following high school, Brady was a surveyor in both North Dakota and Minnesota until he entered the US Army in 2009, serving during OEF (Operation Enduring Freedom). He trained at Fort Benning, GA, before being stationed at Fort Polk, LA. In October of 2010, Brady was deployed to Afghanistan for a year with Bravo Company 2-4 Infantry 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. On February 18, 2012, Brady was united in marriage to Katie McCollum at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen, MN. They spent the last year of Brady's military career Stationed at Fort Polk where he trained as a military sniper. During this time they adopted a puppy, Zoey, who became a very important part of his life.

After his discharge from the Army they lived in Rice, MN, and he attended St. Cloud State University. While living in Rice, he was a Range Master at The Firing Line in Sauk Rapids. He also owned and operated Sub-Zero, a custom gun and ammunition business. In December of 2014, they moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, and Brady transferred to NDSU to complete his degree in Ag Economics.

Brady truly had a love and respect for nature and his country. As a patriotic American citizen, Brady felt it was his duty to serve his country and was a well-respected soldier and leader. He loved hunting, shooting, traveling, gardening, working with cattle, reading, learning, sharing his knowledge and playing with Zoey. He loved spending time with his and Katie's families, especially his nieces and nephews. He was a strong person and a rock for so many, but also had a gentle, funny side and always had a huge, beautiful smile on his face.

Brady is survived by his wife, Katie, Detroit Lakes; his parents, Russell and Charlene Oberg, Dilworth, MN; one brother, Bradley (Robbi) Oberg, Ulen; one sister, Tracy (Bradley) Dunham, Ulen; mother and father-in-law, David and Judy McCollum, Mahnomen, MN; grandparents: Lois Oberg, Fargo, ND, Jackie Mulske, Moorhead, MN, and Duane Most, Loveland, CO; three brothers-in-law: David (Dena) McCollum, Breezy Point, MN; Joe (Amy) McCollum, Detroit Lakes, and Mike McCollum, Callaway, MN.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon, MN. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 12th from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Maranatha Free Lutheran Church in Ulen, MN. Burial will take place in the North Bethlehem Cemetery, Ulen, MN.
