    13 Engines was a Canadian alternative rock band active in the 1990s. Formed in 1985 as The Ikons, the band consisted of four York University studentsโ€”vocalist John Critchley, guitarist Mike Robbins, bassist Jim Hughes and drummer Grant Ethier. They released a self-titled independent cassette in 1986 before changing their name to 13 Engines. This name was a reference to the automobile industry in Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan, which were the first two markets to embrace the band. They released two independent albums, Before Our Time in 1987 and Byram Lake Blues in 1989, before signing to SBK Records in the United States and EMI in Canada. Their major label debut, 1991's A Blur to Me Now, gave the band airplay for the singles "King of Saturday Night" and "Big Surprise". However, SBK dropped them soon afterward. 1993's Perpetual Motion Machine, produced by Critchley, was the band's breakthrough in Canada, spawning the hit singles "More", "Bred in the Bone" and "Smoke & Ashes", and led to a spot on The Tragically Hip's Another Roadside Attraction tour. They followed up with Conquistador in 1995, which gave them another hit with "Beneath My Hand".

    1927 are an Australian pop, rock band formed in 1987 with James Barton on drums, Bill Frost on bass guitar, his brother Garry Frost on guitar and keyboards, and Eric Weideman on vocals, guitar and keyboards. They were popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s with their major hit songs "That's When I Think of You", "If I Could", "Compulsory Hero" and "Tell Me a Story". Their multi-platinum number-one album, ...ish was followed by The Other Side which peaked at number three. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1989 they won two categories: Breakthrough Artist โ€“ Album for ...ish and Breakthrough Artist โ€“ Single for "That's When I Think of You". At the 1990 ceremony they won Best Video for "Compulsory Hero", which was directed by Geoff Barter. Late in 1986 Garry Frost saw Weideman on a "Red Faces" talent segment of variety TV show Hey Hey It's Saturday, Frost offered Weideman a spot in a new band, 1927. In 1992 the group released a third studio album, 1927, which reached the top 40; but they disbanded the following year. Weideman reformed 1927 in 2009 with a new line-up.

By the time she turned ten, she had already performed on the television show Star Search and sang in concert alongside Gladys Knight. Aaliyah's career took off in earnest when she signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson's Blackground Records at the age of 12. Her debut album, Age Ain't Nothing But a Number, released when she was just 15, was a commercial success and established her as a rising star in R&B. The album spawned two hit singles and was certified double Platinum by the RIAA. Her subsequent albums, One in a Million and Aaliyah, further cemented her status in the industry, with each garnering critical acclaim and commercial success.     ABBA are a Swedish pop group formed in Stockholm in 1972 by Agnetha Fรคltskog, Bjรถrn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The group's name is an acronym of the first letters of their first names. They became one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of popular music, topping the charts worldwide from 1974 to 1982. ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest 1974 at The Dome in Brighton, UK, giving Sweden its first triumph in the contest. They are the most successful group to have taken part in the competition. During the band's active years, it was composed of two married couples: Fรคltskog and Ulvaeus, and Lyngstad and Andersson. With the increase of their popularity, their personal lives suffered which eventually resulted in the collapse of both marriages. The relationship changes were reflected in the group's music, with latter compositions featuring darker and more introspective lyrics. After ABBA disbanded in January 1983, Andersson and Ulvaeus achieved success writing music for the stage, while Lyngstad and Fรคltskog pursued solo careers with mixed success. ABBA's music declined in popularity until the purchase of ABBA's catalogue and record company Polar by Polygram in 1989 enabled the groundwork to be laid for an international re-issue of all their original material and a new Greatest Hits (ABBA Gold) collection in September 1992, which became a worldwide bestseller. Several films, notably Muriel's Wedding (1994) and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), further revived interest in the group and spawned several tribute bands. In 1999, ABBA's music was adapted into the successful musical Mamma Mia! that toured worldwide. A film of the same name, released in 2008, became the highest-grossing film in the United Kingdom that year. A sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, was released in 2018. On 27 April 2018, it was announced that the band had recorded two new songs after 35 years of being inactive, named "I Still Have Faith in You" and "Donโ€™t Shut Me Down". On 18 September 2018, in an interview, Andersson said that they are still working on the songs, with possibly a third one written; they are set to be released in 2019.Estimates of ABBA's total record sales are over 380 million, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. ABBA are the first group from a non-English-speaking country to achieve consistent success in the charts of English-speaking countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States. They have a joint record eight consecutive number-one albums in the UK. The group also enjoyed significant success in Latin America, and recorded a collection of their hit songs in Spanish. ABBA were honoured at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005, when their hit "Waterloo" was chosen as the best song in the competition's history. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. In 2015, their song "Dancing Queen" was inducted into the Recording Academy's Grammy Hall of Fame.

    Adrian Belew (born Robert Steven Belew, December 23, 1949) is an American musician, songwriter and record producer. A multi-instrumentalist primarily known as a guitarist and singer, Belew is noted for his unusual, impressionistic approach to guitar playing, which, rather than relying on standard instrumental tones, often resembles sound effects or noises made by animals and machines. Perhaps best known for his long stint as frontman and co-guitarist for the progressive rock group King Crimson from 1981 to 2009, Belew is widely recognized as an "incredibly versatile player" who has released nearly twenty solo albums for Island Records and Atlantic Records, blending or alternating Beatles-inspired pop-rock with more experimental fare. Belew is a member of the intermittently-active pop band the Bears, and fronted his own band GaGa in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He has worked extensively as a session and touring musician, including periods with Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, King Crimson, Laurie Anderson, and Nine Inch Nails, as well as contributing to hit singles by Paul Simon, Tom Tom Club, and others. Belew himself scored a Top 10 hit single in 1989 with "Oh Daddy," and his 2005 single "Beat Box Guitar" was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Rock Instrumental Performance category. Belew has also worked in instrument design and multimedia, collaborating with Parker Guitars to help design his own Parker Fly signature guitar, and designing his own iOS mobile apps, "FLUX by belew" and "FLUX:FX, the multi-effect audio processor app."

    Ahmet Ertegun (, Turkish spelling: Ahmet Ertegรผn ([ahหˆmet eษพteหˆษŸyn]; July 31 [O.S. 18 July] 1923 โ€“ December 14, 2006) was a Turkish-American businessman, songwriter and philanthropist. Ertegun was best known as the co-founder and president of Atlantic Records and for discovering and championing many leading rhythm and blues and rock musicians. He also wrote classic blues and pop songs. In addition he served as the chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and museum, located in Cleveland, Ohio. Ertegun has been described as "one of the most significant figures in the modern recording industry." In 2017 he was inducted into Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in recognition of his work in the music business. He was also a significant figure in fostering ties between the U.S. and Turkey, his birthplace. He served as the chairman of the American Turkish Society for over 20 years until his death. He also co-founded the New York Cosmos soccer team of the original North American Soccer League.

    Aka Gรผndรผz Kutbay, a leading Turkish ney player of the 1960s and 1970s, was known for his traditional sound, deep tones, and interest in jazz, Tibetan, Indian, and other world musics. Kutbay was a staff musician for many years at Radio Istanbul, where he considered himself a follower of Ulvi Erguner and Ulvi's father, the noted Sรผleyman Erguner. Kutbay taught ney at the prestigious Turkish Music National Conservatory in Istanbul from about 1973 to 1979. He served as Head Ney Player at the Mevlana Festival in Konya in the early 1970s and led the first North American tour of the Mevlevi Dervishes in 1972 together with Ulvi Erguner. In Turkey, Aras record label published LPs of his and in the US, Atlantic Records produced "Music of the Whirling Dervishes" LP featuring Kutbay and Kรขni Karaca. Playasound/Auvidis released a CD in 1991 of solo improvisations by Kutbay; the longest of these lasts an extraordinary twenty-three minutes. He appears onscreen briefly playing ney at the beginning of Peter Brook's 1979 film, "Meetings with Remarkable Men".

    Albert George "Al" Hibbler (August 16, 1915 โ€“ April 24, 2001) was an American baritone vocalist, who sang with Duke Ellington's orchestra before having several pop hits as a solo artist. Some of Hibbler's singing is classified as rhythm and blues, but he is best seen as a bridge between R&B and traditional pop music. According to one authority, "Hibbler cannot be regarded as a jazz singer but as an exceptionally good interpreter of twentieth-century popular songs who happened to work with some of the best jazz musicians of the time."

    Alice Cooper, born Vincent Damon Furnier on February 4, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, is an American rock singer, songwriter, and actor whose career spans over five decades. Known for his theatrical and often macabre stage performances, Cooper has become a household name in the world of hard rock and heavy metal. His signature style combines elements of horror, vaudeville, and garage rock, pushing boundaries and challenging conventional norms. Cooper's journey into music started with a spoof band named The Earwigs, formed to participate in a high school talent show. This group later evolved into Alice Cooper, a band that gained recognition for its unique combination of music and dramatic theatrics. The band's debut album Pretties for You was released in 1969. However, it was their breakthrough hit I'm Eighteen from the album Love It to Death (1971) that made them famous. The band continued its success streak with the release of School's Out (1972), achieving international fame. In 1975, Furnier adopted the band's name as his own, becoming Alice Cooper, the solo artist. His first solo album, Welcome to My Nightmare (1975), was a commercial success and solidified his position as a major artist in the rock music industry. Cooper is also recognized for his contributions to film and television, including appearances in movies like Wayne's World (1992) and Dark Shadows (2012). His influence on rock music and his contributions to shaping its theatrical side have earned him a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well as the title The Godfather of Shock Rock.

    Alan White (June 14, 1949 โ€“ May 26, 2022) was an English drummer and songwriter, best known for his tenure in the progressive rock band Yes. He joined Yes in 1972 as a replacement for original drummer Bill Bruford. Following the death of bassist Chris Squire in 2015, White became the longest-remaining member in the band and the only member besides Squire to never leave the band prior to his death in 2022. He recorded 42 albums with the band. In 1969, White joined John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band, after Lennon invited him to play at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival festival, followed by a show at the Lyceum Ballroom. He notably played drums on the singles "Instant Karma!" and "Imagine", as well as most of Lennon's 1971 Imagine album. In addition to his work with Yes and John Lennon, White performed on over 50 albums by other musicians, notably George Harrison, Ginger Baker's Air Force, Terry Reid, and Joe Cocker. White was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

    Alesha Anjanette Dixon (born 7 October 1978) is an English singer, songwriter, rapper, dancer, model, and television personality. Dixon rose to fame in 2001 as a member of the all-female R&B/garage trio Mis-Teeq. The group disbanded in 2005 and Dixon pursued a music career as a solo artist, signing a recording contract to Polydor Records. She began recording her debut solo album, Fired Up, in 2006, but due to poor record sales of her first two singles, "Lipstick" and "Knockdown", she was dropped from Polydor.In 2007, Dixon won Strictly Come Dancing. Her television exposure led to a successful comeback, which included her signing to Asylum Records, an offshoot of Warner Music Group. Dixon then released a second album, entitled The Alesha Show, in 2008, which received platinum certification from BPI in the UK and spawned four singles including "The Boy Does Nothing" and "Breathe Slow", the latter of which became her highest charting single and earned her a Brit Award nomination. In September 2009, Dixon became a judge on the seventh series of Strictly Come Dancing, replacing Arlene Phillips. The replacement of Phillips by Dixon attracted criticism, as some questioned the extent of Dixon's dancing knowledge. In 2010, Dixon returned for the eighth series of Strictly Come Dancing and released her third studio album, The Entertainer. In January 2012, shortly after completing the ninth series and her third year as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing, Dixon quit to become a judge on Britain's Got Talent. Her fourth studio album, Do It for Love, was released in 2015.
