Louis Frédéric François Gauthey (1795-1864), pasteur et pédagogue
Résumé
Former pastor and friend of the Swiss pedagogue Johann Pestalozzi, at the end of his career in Yverdon, the ministry of L.F.F. Gauthey turned to the instruction of teachers. He was the first director of the École Normal du Canton de Vaud, from 1834 to 1845, before leading the school founded by the Société d'Encouragement pour l'Instruction Primaire parmi les Protestants de France, in Courbevoie, from 1846 to 1864. The literature he wrote is the one of a mômier, i.e. of a protestant influenced by the ideas of the Revival that was then wafting over from Geneva. May we speak of the "educational methods of a mômier"? From his writings, this article seeks to describe and understand the characteristics of his educational methods which are forgotten today.
